The Food Ration distribution and Detailed Damage Assessment in the Western, Central and Eastern Division is well underway following the first deployment on Monday.
Director National Disaster Management Office, Ms. Vasiti Soko says that this morning, the western team have started their food ration distribution in the Yasawa and Mamanuca Group while the team covering Vatulele, Beqa and Yanuca Island continued their distribution in the affected villages.
“This morning, the MV Altruism is berthed at Daku, Kadavu and serving the villages of Vunisea, Namuana, Namalata, Navutua, Drue, Naikorokoro, Tiliva, Laqere, Sogoseivou, Solotini, Najiri, Dagai and Kadavu Provincial School” said Soko.
“The MV Spirit of Harmony which is berthed at Vabea, Kadavu is serving the villages of Nabouwalu, Naqara, Vabea, Waisomo, Narikoso, Dravuni and Buliya” said Soko.
In Ono-i-Lau, the MV Ohana has covered the village of Nukuni, Lovoni, Doi and Matokana before going up to Vatoa, Ogea, Fulaga and Kabara.
In Yasayasa Moala, the MV Spirit of Love has covered Qalikarua, Levuka I Daku, Makadru and Yaroi on Matuku Island before going to Totoya and Moala Island.
Soko said that the ration distribution is calculated based on per head in a household.
“We calculate the rations based on the number of adults and children in a household. This is the information that we received from the Commissioners’ before the deployments” said Soko.
“When our officers reach the Communities, we handover to the Community focal point who already have their community profile “adds Soko.
The Food Rations and Relief Supplies will then be distributed accordingly.
SITUATION SO FAR:
A First Leptospirosis case recorded in Kadavu was evacuated to Suva.
A 19 year old iTaukei male from Vunisea hospital was evacuated to the CWM Hospital as the first positive leptospirosis case.
A total of 1,544 evacuees are still sheltering in 74 Evacuation Centres around the three divisions. This includes 3 Evacuation Centres in the Western Division with 40 Evacuees, 15 Evacuation Centres in the Central Division with 241 Evacuees and 56 Evacuation Centres in the Eastern Division with 1,263 evacuees.
AID & RELIEF SUPPORT:
The National Disaster Management Office continues to receive overwhelming support from donors and partners in an effort to coordinate immediate response to those affected by Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold.
Director NDMO, Ms. Vasiti Soko says the following donations have been made for immediate response.
· Australian Government have committed FJD$350,000.
· New Zealand has committed NZD$100,000 for immediate response.
· Kasabias donated 5,042 clean cook stoves with distribution plans underway.
· Total Fiji have donated $2000 worth of Kerosene for planned deployment.
· French Government - 100 family kits (100 tents of 16sqaure meters each), 100 kitchen kits, 100 shelter kits and 200 hundred jerry cans of 20 liters each.
· Bred Bank Fiji has committed FJD $10,000 for immediate response.
