People have been urged to stay alert tonight as Tropical Cyclone Evan approaches the Fiji Group says the Ministry of Information permanent secretary Sharon Smith Johns.
Flooding in low lying areas is possible tonight as the cyclone is expected to bring heavy downpour.
“People living in low lying areas should consider moving to higher ground or evacuation centres are there is a high tide at 9.00pm tonight at 9.00am tomorrow,” she said.
“By sunset tonight everyone should be ready with torches, batteries, candles, supplies and other necessities.”
Ms Smith Johns reiterated government’s call for the public to refrain from unnecessary travel.
“Put your safety and your families’ safety first and keep listening to the radio before attempting to move around.”
