REPAIR WORKS TO CONTINUE AT COURT FACILITIES

10/02/2014

Fijians can look forward to better coordinated judicial services in the future with refurbishments and repair works continuing at various court facilities around the country.

Chief Justice Anthony Gates said that there will be a continuance of the court building programme in 2014.

“We will continue to repair and modernise our courts, to restore Government Buildings including the clock tower, to commence the new Lautoka High Court Building, and to press on with station courthouse improvements”, Justice Gates said.

The Government Buildings clock and its tower was built and assembled by the Cumbria Clock Company in 1939.

Justice Gates also said that works at the Magistrate’s Courts at Nadi, Ba, Rakiraki, Nabouwalu, Taveuni and Vunidawa is a priority.

“We will be working on improving our transcription services. These improvements are not only long overdue, they will transform practice at the Bar and facilitate a swifter service,” the Chief Justice said.
