28/07/2025

A momentous milestone achievement for the 46 young adults who once walked the streets, faced countless challenges, and struggled to survive as they graduated with certificates in Barbering, Baking & Patisserie, and Tour Guiding at the Fiji National University, Namaka Campus today (28.07.25).

Officiating at the event was the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Jese Saukuru, who reminded graduates to learn from their experience, brace to overcome challenges, and move on with their new chapter in life.

“You’ve faced challenges and overcome them, and you’ve learnt to persevere through difficult times. As you move on from this chapter in your lives, I encourage each of you to remember the lessons you’ve learnt and the experiences you’ve had. These experiences will shape who you are and how you approach the world, serving you well in the years ahead,” Minister Saukuru said.

The journey of graduates from hardship to hope is a powerful testament to the transformative power of education and determination. At Namaka Campus, Minister Saukuru commended the effort by the graduates during the duration of their studies.

“Your progress shows your potential and highlights the positive impact of the training programs. Your achievements inspire us all and demonstrate the importance of investing in youth skills development.”

“These youths once faced challenges on the streets, but today, they stand here as proof that resilience and opportunity can change lives.”

Each youth who graduated had a story marked by struggle, perseverance, and an unwavering spirit that refused to be defeated. Despite the obstacles they faced, they refused to give up on themselves or their future.

Minister Saukuru also reaffirmed the Coalition Government's commitment to helping disadvantaged youth rise above their circumstances.

“These are the steps the ministry has already taken to ensure our youth receive the best opportunities available. This is especially for the youth who are marginalised in our society. In providing platforms to upgrade their lives, the ministry has designed various informal training programs to empower them.”

Minister Saukuru acknowledged the Head of School for Tourism, Hospitality & Travel at Fiji National University, Namaka Campus, for their support in facilitating for the past few months.
