ROAD AUTHORITY COMMENCES PRELIMINARY WORKS

23/05/2012

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has begun preliminary works to address the conditions of roads across the country.

Earlier this year the FRA was established to respond to the growing concerns of deteriorating road conditions across the country. This now includes introducing new road maintenance contracts, improved road maintenance practices and the latest technology, ultimately this will result in improved conditions for Fijians.

One of the contributing factors to the deteriorating state of roads this year include consistent rainfall and the floods that affected not only the Western Division but other parts of the country. While this has set back maintenance works, the Authority has in place a clear strategy to address the worst effected roads.

Heavy duty patching combined with an increased focus on pothole patching has already commenced for the sealed road network. The  FRA is liaising with stakeholders to identify non tar sealed roads to identify priority areas.

One of priorities now for the  Authority is to address the backlog of maintenance work that exists, the work required to provide the level of service expected from the FRA and taking on a more proactive approach to road maintenance in the country.

Providing world class roads in Fiji, position’s all communities to generate economic activity and link all Fijians to the services and facilities that the Fijian Government is now making available.
