The Public Service Commission had recently received a number of reports and complaints from various Landlords in regards to the extensive damage caused to the buildings rented by Government.
Public Service permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand said this is due to the lack of responsibility and in some cases negligence by Ministries/Departments/Agencies or civil servants occupying these buildings.
Mr Chand said that as a direct result, the Landlords have to bear the unnecessary costs of repairing these extensive damage to the premises sustained or caused by willful or negligent conduct of the tenant and also including persons coming into the premises with the tenants’ consent.
“Therefore it has become necessary that ministries and departments play a leading role and take full responsibility in ensuring that our obligations, as tenants as contained in the respective Tenancy Agreements, are adhered to at all times,” Mr Chand said.
