The remote island of Rotuma is ready to host a large government delegation for Rotuma Day celebrations.
More than 100 government officials arrived yesterday on board the MV Iloilovatu, while the Minister of Agriculture Mr Joketani Cokanasiga arrived today.
“The government team who are here on the island are here for two purposes; the celebration of the Rotuma Day Celebration on Saturday and Sunday and the visit to facilities around the island. The government delegation will visit farmers on the island, open an air treatment plant, and inspect the current airport improvements on the island,” District Officer Rotuma Nicholas Ting said.
Some of the Government ministries currently touring the island includes the Department of Agriculture, the Public Service Commission, the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women, the Public Works Department, the Fiji Police Forces and the Bio Security Authority of Fiji.
“A highlight of the Rotuma Day celebration this year is the availability of the Fiji Police Band which is renowned for its spectacular performance, the public are really looking forward to their entertaining performances,” Ting said.
