ROTUMA YOUTH TO PILOT INTERNATIONAL AWARD PROGRAM

02/09/2016

The “Ambassador Youth Club” of Motusa village in Rotuma will pilot the Duke of Edinburgh International Award program for youth clubs around the country.

The Rotuma-based youth club has received a sub-licence as an operating authority from the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Laisenia Tuitubou. This development now sets the platform for the Program to extend to registered youth clubs across the country.

While handing over the sub-licence to the Club’s advisor Pastor Fred Taito, Minister Tuitubou said it was encouraging for youth clubs to join their peers on the international scene.

“This is an international program offering three awards for various activities undertaken by participants and I encourage you to take up this program as it instills good character attributes in its participants,” said Minister Tuitubou.

“I expect to see able leaders from this Youth Club as a result of participating in the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards as we can see the difference between those who take up this program as they take the lessons learnt from this program with them for their whole life,” he added.

In response, Pastor Taito thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports for offering the sub-license to operate as an operating authority to the Ambassador Youth Club.

“We are indeed privileged to be chosen as the first Youth Club to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh International Award and I know that our initial number of 15 participants will surely grow as I can see the amount of interest shown by our young people with today’s handing over of the license,” said Pastor Taito.

Munivai Saureti, a member of the Youth Club said that the program was well received by his peers and that they would aim to reap its benefits to the full in becoming future leaders of the island.

“At the end of our participation in the program, we as youth will be inspired and motivated in performing our roles and duties efficiently to become better Rotuman leaders for tomorrow,” said Saureti.

“We appreciate your presence here at the launch of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award and we know that through all the commitment and effort shown here today, it will usher in greater things for the youths of our island.”
