Rural Fijians deserve the best of education facilities.
This was reiterated by Minister for Rural and Maritime and Disaster Management Hon. Inia Seruiratu following the commissioning of new buildings at Nadi District School in Nasavu, Bua this week.
The school was one of the worst-affected schools during Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.
This week, Minister Seruiratu joined the Hon. Prime Minister at Nasavu Village for the commissioning of the school’s Dining Hall, Hostel, Teachers Quarters, and new School Block which had been rebuilt by Government to withstand the winds of future storms.
“The Government’s efforts on improving the quality of education is not only in urban areas, but most particularly to rural Fijians. Rural Fijians deserve the best of education facilities and this was again a commitment by the Government following Cyclone Winston in 2016,” Minister Seruiratu said.
“Nadi District School was one of the worst affected schools in the area and of course the “Build Back Better and Stronger” took a few years to complete, but the good thing is the school and the management and the community can be rest assured that the facilities they have now can withstand Category 4 and Category 5 cyclones. It’s good for the community in terms of providing quality education to the rural communities.”
Speaking during the commissioning of the new school buildings, head teacher Mr. Pateresio Koroinaqara said the children attending the school were grateful to the Government for the assistance, adding that new buildings would enhance the academic future of these children from remote rural communities.
