Re-launch of Volivoli project

27/07/2010

The Capacity Building for the Development of Adaptation Measures in Pacific Island Countries (CBDAMPIC) project is to develop measures that can address Climate Change issues.

The major issue for Fiji was the shortage of freshwater supply.

The Canadian Government through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) funded the CBAMPIC project.

The focus for the Volivoli Project was the construction of 4 water storage tanks, laying of pipes and installing motor for the 4 boreholes that were to be installed at Volivoli and Rarapatu settlement.

The Volivoli project was scheduled to begin in March 2005.

The work was incomplete as the funds had been transferred to the Consolidated Account at Ministry of Finance.

As of 2010, the Department of Environment under the Ministry of Local  Government, Urban Development,  Housing and Environment was able to access this fund from the Ministry of Finance hence the re-launch of this project.

In pursuing this project the Ministry is contributing to the integrated development at the divisional level and assisting in the reduction of poverty in accordance with pillars 7and 8 of the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress.

The re-launch of the Volivoli Project took place in Rakiraki on 9th July,2009.

The Minister Local Government, Urban Development Housing and Environment, Col. Samuela Saumatua launched this project.
