In light of the reforms that are currently taking place in the Civil Service, it has been decided that Mr Parmesh Chand, Permanent Secretary for Public Service relinquish his responsibilities over Sugar.
According to the Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Mr Josefa Serulagilagi, this change will enable Mr Chand to fully concentrate on civil service reforms, which form a major part of his responsibility as the Permanent Secretary, Public Service.
In the meantime, the Sugar Unit, which is based in the Prime Minister’s Office will continue with all administrative work related to the Sugar Industry. There is consideration currently being given to further strengthening of the Unit, given the need to speed up the reforms currently underway in the Sugar Industry.
