The Permanent Secretary for Defence, Mr Jale Walker Fotofili says Government is focused on improving its economy through implementation of aggressive reforms.
And the modernisation of programs will pave the way for better streamlining processes and sustainable systems for the economy.
“Stringent measures imposed by the Untied States of America through its mandate have pragmatically enabled strategic partners such as Fiji,” Mr Fotofili said.
“This issue has forced Fiji to succumb by reviewing its internal security measures especially at its ports of entry.”
Mr Fotofili acknowledged the enormous contribution by the US government in areas of capacity building for law enforcement agencies.
“Fiji expect more training offers by the US, especially in sharing invaluable knowledge and skills for combating transnational crime and terrorism at all levels.”
He made these remarks at the closing ceremony of the port security seminar in the Western Division last week.
Close to 40 personnel from Fiji Islands Revenue Custom Authority, Fiji Police Force, Ports Authority of Fiji, Immigration Department, Fiji Biosecurity Officers and Fiji Islands Maritime Safety Administration received their certificates at Lautoka Waterfront last week.
