The Prime Minister and Minister for Provincial Development, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has endorsed the appointments of Regional and Provincial Development Boards.

Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development, Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar, Manasa Vaniqi confirmed  these appointments adding that about 150 senior citizens have already been appointed as members to the two boards.

“ For the first time in history  62 women were appointed to be members of the Regional Development Board and the Provincial Development Board,” he said.

“ The appointment is fulfilling Pillar Seven of the Peoples Charter, Peace and Progress which clearly states Government’s commitment to establishing an integrated development structure at provincial level.

Mr Vaniqi said the Prime Minister has endorsed senior citizens to carry out development within their respective areas of appointment.

“ The appointment of these board members is in line with Government’s initiative to establish representative provincial board (PDBs) for each province by integrating the present provincial and advisory council.

“ These changes will continue to improve Government service delivery,” he said.

Mr Vaniqi said that part of the Boards responsibility is to revitalize economic activity in rural areas and maritime islands through the Provincial development board and provision of basic infrastructure including Town and Center.
