Registrar-General implements safeguard against identity theft

26/10/2011

The Registrar-General has conducted an internal investigation relating to claims of forgery regarding a birth certificate of a female Fijian citizen, which resulted in a false marriage.

The matter is now under Police investigation.

While the Registrar-General will await the outcome of the Police findings, he has taken steps to ensure the situation is not repeated.

Citizens are now required to produce photo identification, request-letters, and certified passport photos when requesting certificates or applying for marriage licenses.
