Review of terms and conditions of government wage-earners

Every government wage-earner must be able to fully contribute to a quality working environment.

These were the comments of the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Commission, Mr Parmesh Chand, as he officially opened a consultative session on the conditions and the rules of employment for government wage earners.

The consultative meeting was facilitated by the Public Service Commission and more than 30 participants from various Ministries and Departments were in attendance.

“The terms and conditions that guide the employment of un-established government employees is being reviewed so that it could be aligned to the State Services Decree and Government’s Strategic Framework for Change,” Mr Chand said.

The meeting held this morning, is part of a series of consultative sessions that are being held with all stakeholders.

In his opening remarks this morning, Mr Chand emphasized the need for a framework for follow-up and monitoring. He stated that this framework must be incorporated into the revised manual that will guide the working conditions of wage earners.

In addition, the Permanent Secretary reminded the participants of the importance of aligning the terms and conditions of government wage earners to the factors that guide civil service reforms.

“Civil service reforms are an integral part of the mandate of Government, as well as the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress.

“The Public Service Commission is taking a lead role in the formulating, seeking necessary approvals and overseeing the implementation of these reforms,” Mr Chand said.

The consultative meeting held this morning is part of this process and participants were reminded to spread the message of reform and to explore effective means to ensure that all state resources are utilized to the maximum.

According to Mr Chand, the performance of all government wage earners is certainly part of the exercise.

Mr Chand concluded by impressing upon the participants the importance of knowing fully that Government is aiming to provide better and much improved services to the public and all stakeholders, using smarter ways, lesser costs and quicker turn-around times.
