Revision of Fiji laws begin after 24 years

A comprehensive revision of laws of Fiji, the first since 1985 has begun in the Law Revision Commission Office.

To assist in this project, volunteers selected from the Government National Youth Service Scheme have been co-opted to assist.

There are currently eight volunteers engaged in the Law Revision Commission Office. Four of who are law graduates already admitted to the Fiji bar. The four law graduate volunteers assisting are:

Kitione Boniu Waqavonovono,

Rasalatagane Dixie Malani and;

Lanieta Mataigusu

The other set of four volunteers (Alec Koi, Veronica Seniwaitui, Aminio Matai and Merelesita Se Vosasi) work in the IT Section on typesetting.

Earlier this year, Cabinet had approved the National Volunteer Service in all Government Ministries and Statutory Bodies. The policy is intended to ensure that the volunteers procedure of getting the right people was possible through the NYSS project of the Ministry of Youth which has an employment promotion strategy focusing on human resource development to increase employment opportunities, incomes and productivity.
