Rubbish collection trucks must comply

25/05/2010

Environment Authorities have noted recent public concerns of uncovered rubbish trucks used to transport rubbish to the Naboro Landfill and other dumps in Fiji. The  result is rubbish flying off the trucks and into our streets.

The Environmental Management  Act 2005 states these trucks are supposed to operate with a Waste Transport Permit which spells out proper operational guidelines.

Acting Director of Environment, Jope Davetanivalu says the Waste Transport Permit clear warns against trucks operating with no proper cover as illegal which can result in revoking their permit.

He has advised registered rubbish collectors under the Environmental Management Act 2005 and Waste and Pollution Regulations to take this release as a warning.

“The Department will be come down hard on them if they are breaching their Waste Transport Permit Conditions.”
