The Satya Sai Organisation of Fiji has welcomed the decision by government for the teaching of Hindi and iTaukei languages at schools.
Satya Sai organization chairman, Professor Narendra Reddy says teaching the two subjects at school would bring the country together in unity.
He said the decision which is now a constitutional right of every child to be educated in both languages would bring unity to Fijians who will be able to converse free to everyone in any language.
“I must acknowledge the foresight of the Government in making this bold step and having it embedded in the nation’s constitution is something that is worth praise,” he said.
“Language should never had been a barrier in a country such as our where the iTaukei and Fijians of Indian descent have lived together for over a century – if our forefathers would have shared languages in cross culture, Fiji would have been one of the most unique places to live in on earth.”
Minister for education Filipe Bole while addressing teachers at the 2013 Head Teacher Conference said teachers will now have to teach the two languages.
“There will be no more excuses now that we do not have the people or the resources as Government has made the decision in the nation’s interest,” Minister Bole said.
