Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Premila Kumar visited Nakauvadra High School, Rakiraki Methodist Primary School, Navatu Primary School and Penang Sangam Primary School yesterday.
During the visit, Minister Kumar said that the purpose of the visit was to experience the entire process of the reopening of schools.
“I have found that most schools I have visited, in fact all of them are in compliance with the COVID safe protocol.”
“The schools have the temperature screening checks done. They have a desk where sanitizing is done and the wash facilities are in order."
The schools carry out temperature screening checks, have a desk where sanitization is handled, and they have clean washroom facilities.
Minister Kumar added that teachers have been trained to take care of children if they fall ill, and they know what to do if they do get ill.
Also on the agenda was meeting with the teachers to discuss employer-employee issues, as well as informing them about the number of reforms being implemented in the education sector and the ministry's expectations.
The visit was also an opportunity for the Minister to meet with the school management committees.
“It is vital that this partnership is strengthened, and the purpose of the visit was to strengthen this partnership with the school management committee.
“As such, I shared a few of our policies with the school management committee regarding the use of the Free Education Grant that the education ministry gives out to different schools and that is managed by the school management committee and the heads of schools.
