The Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts wishes to inform teachers, students and parents that all schools nationwide will further remain closed this week.
A total of 406 Evacuation Centres still remain active across the country, out of which 132 are schools. Close to 14,322 people are still taking shelter due to damages sustained from Tropical Cyclone Ana.
Schools will resume for classes on Monday 8 February 2021 for all teachers, students and ancillary staff.
Many of our teachers are also affected by water and electricity disruptions and most of them are helping their families to clean up and bring normalcy to their lives. Your safety and well-being is equally important to us.
School Heads and Managements are requested to ensure schools are prepared well before students and teachers return to school on Monday next week.
The Ministry is still conducting a damage assessment survey to ascertain the levels of damage sustained by TC Ana as we were still rebuilding due to TC Yasa.
Minister for Education Hon. Rosy Akbar said, “Some areas may not have sustained damages from Tropical Cyclone Ana, however, a number of areas still do not have access to water and electricity. The welfare of our teachers and students is paramount and we want to be absolutely sure of their safety when they return to school on Monday next week”.
The Minister encourages parents to keep their children engaged in meaningful activities while they remain at home as flood waters have not yet receded in some areas. The dangers of waterborne diseases is very high and parents are reminded to boil all drinking water.
