As daylight savings commences on 21st October, 2012, the Ministry of Education is advising schools around the country to prepare students for the change in time.
Cabinet recently approved the new daylight savings time which will end on 20th January, 2013.
“All students, particularly class one students are to be informed that as from 21st October, which is a Sunday, the clock will be moved an hour ahead of the current time. Parents will also need to prepare their children mentally so that they adjust well with these changes”, said the Ministry of Education permanent secretary, Doctor Brij Lal.
“Schools that use public transport RSL Vehicles will need to make arrangements with the service providers for students to be transported to schools before 9 o’clock in the morning during school days. All schools must start classes by 9 am,” added Dr Lal.
Meanwhile, form six and seven students are preparing for the Fiji School Leaving Certificate and Fiji Seventh Form examination but the daylight savings will not affect the starting and finishing time of the examinations.
“Both the FSLC and FSFE will not be affected by the daylight saving. All schools are expected to start and complete the examinations at the specified time stated in the Examination Timetable sent out to schools,” concluded the Permanent Secretary.
