The Fijian Government is committed to securing a future that is sustainable, addresses climate change and one that inspires the ambition for a better life for all.
The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Hon. Rosy Akbar, in saying this, officiated as chief guest at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Open Day at the Laucala Bay Campus today in Suva.
“We are committed to meeting key development targets and plans, and that is for all Fijians to have access to quality education at all levels,” Minister Akbar said.
Minister Akbar said Fiji has transitioned into an economic hub, becoming a global leader, an advocate on key areas.
“And each year, we continue to build on that progress,” she said.
Minister Akbar also assured the students present at the event that government had heard their views and incorporated it into the 2019/2020 national budget.
“The Fijian Government has allocated more than $800 million to the education sector and that is over 21% of the national budget,” she said.
Minister Akbar urged students to strive towards becoming job creators rather than job seekers.
Also present as guests was the Vice-Chancellor and President of USP Professor Pal Ahluwalia.
The theme of the event was “Shaping Pacific Futures”.
