SECURING VILLAGE NUTRITION PARAMOUNT FOR AGRICULTURE MINISTRY

20/04/2020

The Ministry of Agriculture has emphasized that the nutritional security of all Fijian villages will be ensured.

This will be made possible through the Ministry’s provision of a set of 3x12 fruit tree seedlings to be provided alongside fruit trees to meet their nutritional requirements.

This was shared by Minister for Agriculture, Waterway and Environment Hon. Dr. Mahendra Reddy today during the Agricultural Growth and Expansion Plan announcement in Sabeto, Nadi.

“Whilst some villages may already have some, others may not have any at all,” said Hon. Reddy.

The Ministry will deliver these seedlings to the villages; and, oversee the planting and will train the community on how to support the seedling(s), conserve the seeds and protect it from external threats.

This initiative will be implemented alongside the rice industry development plan that will be distributed to the 1,100 village communities, nationwide to ensure that all Fijians have access to food of acceptable quality and nutritional value.
