20/12/2021

His Excellency, President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere launched the iTaukei Trust Fund’s online learning management system “Solesau”, Healing Plants of Fiji Publication and a newly revamped website at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday.

President Katonivere highlighted that the launch successfully fulfils the iTaukei Trust Fund’s mandate which is "To develop and facilitate initiatives that will improve the quality of life and enhance cultural traditions and values of iTaukei and Rotumans through Culture, Heritage and Language programmes."

"The first project being launched today is the ‘Solesau’. The ‘Solesau’ is an online learning management system focussed on the iTaukei culture and traditions, languages, norms and values."

"The second project is on an exceptional book centred around traditional knowledge on Fiji’s rich flora and fauna and is authored by a well-renowned iTaukei woman, that has transferred her passion and years of knowledge on plants onto this book, aptly titled the 'Healing Plants of Fiji'."

President Katonivere adds the book is authored by one of Fiji’s very own distinguished and Pacific Botanist, Mrs Suliana Siwatibau. It is the culmination of several years of collating information from at least eighty-two (82) different healers in widely located villages and settlements in Fiji.

President Katonivere further stated that the third and final project is the iTaukei Trust Fund’s newly revamped website.

"The new website has a more welcoming feel, rich with imagery and now boasts three languages, English, iTaukei and Rotuman. It is easily accessible on all online formats, be it a desktop computer, laptop or smartphone."
