His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has urged the St John’s of Fiji to strengthen their ties with all stakeholders, including Government in the consolidation of efforts and sharing of resources.
The Head of State, while officiating at the St John 75th anniversary this morning, said that this was necessary so that the organisation collectively achieved a greater impact in the provision of services to all Fijians.
“St John’s Fiji has had a distinguished history and today I make the challenge to you, the current and future St John members to make the next 25 years as historic or even more memorable than the last 75 years,” Ratu Epeli said.
“I also call on the St John’s Fiji to strengthen your ties with all stakeholders including government in order to consolidate all our efforts and to share resources so that we can collectively achieve a greater impact in the provision of services to all Fijians.”
Ratu Epeli added that he was honoured to hold the appointment of patron of the order of St John.
“Today, I stand before you as your patron and I am indeed honoured to hold this appointment and to lead such an organisation that is devoted to the service of humanity,” Ratu Epeli said.
“Service that is akin to the parable of the good Samaritan and the efforts of volunteerism.”
St John Council chairman, Dr Vereniki Raiwalui said he was glad to note over 200 St John student cadets from schools in the Central Division.
“I truly believe that the youth of our nation when given the opportunities groomed with discipline and guidance will develop civic pride, patriotism and a natural sense of helping our neighbour,” Dr Raiwalui said.
“These qualities are fostered through training and guidance as a St John volunteer.”
School children braved the rainy weather conditions to showcase some of the skills learnt while being a member of St John’s at Albert Park today.
