STUDENTS TO FOCUS ON WORTHWHILE ISSUES

04/10/2012

The Ministry of Education permanent secretary Dr Brij Lal has called on students from two prominent schools involved in recent assaults, to focus on their studies and the coming external examinations.

“Nothing good comes out of quarrels, fights and retaliation. Let’s come to some form of reconciliation, putting aside all differences, forgiving one another and treating each other as friends”, Dr Lal said.

“There are better things to focus on such as the external examinations which starts on the 29th of October for form seven students and on the 5th of November for form six students. There are class projects and short tests to divert our attention away from street fights or brawls”.

Teachers have also been reminded to uphold virtues and values within their classes so to instill into students a sense of integrity, morality and responsibility.

“Teachers, it is part of your responsibility to impart values and virtues to your students not only in words but also in action,” added Dr. Lal.

Dr Lal has also pleaded with parents to spend quality time with their children and warn them against unruly behaviors.

“I am pleading with parents to spend more quality time with their children and advising them on the proper way to behave. Uncouth and unruly behaviors are not for students. Please also remind your children that no one is above the law,” Dr Lal said.
