Mr Rajesh Chand was taken by surprise after being formally presented with awards by the Ministry of Education permanent secretary, Dr Brij Lal last week.

Mr Rajesh Chand, an education officer is also the Scouts District Commissioner in Savusavu.

Dr Brij Lal presented him ‘The Chief Scout’s Commendation Award’ and ‘The Medal of Merit’ at the Savusavu Education Office.

Dr Lal presented this in his capacity as Assistant Chief Commissioner of Scouts in Fiji.

Mr Chand had missed out in the formal presentation of these awards in April during the Commissioner’s Conference that was held at Government House because of work commitment.

“We recognise your work and contribution, and I hope you will continue to motivate others in your district to be involved in scouts and understand its importance,” Dr Lal told Mr Chand.

“The Ministry of Education looks at scouts as an institute that can help to administer discipline where corporal punishment can be addressed.

“ Students are also taught life skills as well as survival skills and more importantly, to be independent,” added Dr Lal.
