School agriculture show on course

25/09/2009

47 primary schools and 14 secondary schools have confirmed their participation at this year’s Central Division- Agriculture Show, which will be held on 9th October at Syria Park, Nausori.

The Ministry of Education, through its Divisional Education Office- Central, is spearheading the logistics of the show, in collaboration with teachers comprising of both Primary and Secondary, officers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Forests, and Fiji Police Force.

Oratory contests, poster competitions and gardening displays have been organized to remind the public of the importance of backyard gardening and subsistence farming for our families.

Indeed, this is a sustainable way in which families could supplement their income and at the same time provide fresh and healthy food for the family.

The Ministry of Education hopes that this event will not only bring people together to witness schools’ farm produce, but more importantly, to encourage everyone to grow their own food, which obviously would save costs.

The organizing committee meets next Tuesday, September 29 at River House, Nausori, to finalize preparations.
