Schools in Lau to receive basic necessities

21/03/2010

Two Ministry of Education teams, will be part of the Government contingent that leaves today  for the Lau Group to assess damages caused by Tropical Cyclone Tomas.

Not only will they assess damages, but more importantly, they will take basic education supplies to schools and hold discussions with teachers.

The Ministry’s priority now is for students to begin their classes and for that, they need their basic school items.

Ministry officials will supply schools with temporary shelters/tarpaulins, water containers, textbooks and stationery. Stationery supplies include exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers and erasers.

Equally important is our teachers’ welfare.

The Ministry fully understands the trauma that our teachers in the Lau Group have gone through as this is not an easy time for them.

Ministry officials will hold talks with teachers to find out how their families were affected by the cyclone and will discuss ways in which the Ministry can assist them.

At such a critical time as this, these teachers need our support and words of comfort and encouragement so that life will return to normal and education to resume with ease- this is also what our officials will carry out, whilst there.

Finally, the Ministry believes that supplies that will be distributed to schools will lighten parents’ burden and bring a sigh of relief to them. On the same note, our teachers will be motivated  and comforted as there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
