Head teachers and principals are being asked to supervise the full implementation of internal assessments as the second school term began this week.
The Minister for Education, Mr Filipe Bole said, “head teachers and principals are advised to supervise the implementation of internal assessments in their schools. Teaching and assessment should go side by side in class ”.
“The assessment should be factored into the teachers term two scheme of work and lesson plans. Internal assessment is a regular exercise and must be seen to be pursued vigorously and parents told regularly of children’s performances and not to wait for the usual parents’ day,” he said.
“Assessments should be conducted following the guideline provided to ensure quality education. Teachers are reminded to strictly follow the process must be strictly followed.”
The minister said internal assessments were ongoing process of gathering and analysing data at school for teachers to make judgments about their students’ learning. The process will also tell students what they have learned, which they can tell their parents.
“We want our children to run home after classes and boast to their parents what they have learned at school,” Mr Bole said.
