Members of the public have been asked to store more water because this current dry spell is expected to continue for some time.

Director for National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) Pajiliai Dobui confirmed this.

“The general public is hereby advised to take precautions of the extended dry period that the whole country is experiencing,” he said.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Services, rainfall is not expected to be normal until the next two months.

“As mitigation measures against this dry season, the public are to use water wisely at home and ensure that water tanks and other containers are to be ready for water storages.”

He added that people in the western division are going to be affected the most.

“Also extra dry spells are expected for the sugar belt areas and the maritime zones as in the eastern, the Yasawa and the smaller islands in the northern division,” Dobui added.
