The Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, Mr Parmesh Chand said responses received from applicants applying for the Student Loan Scheme have been positive.

“Our target for 2010 is to ensure that the PSC Student Loan Scheme received the widest possible reach to all applicants around Fiji, since we are a government that is all- inclusive and that access to quality education will remain a priority for Fiji.”

“Moreover, this is an opportunity given by government to assist those parents who cannot afford to send their children to pursue further tertiary education,” he said.

Mr Chand said a total of 965 applications were received by PSC’s Scholarship Unit who have inputted their applications and are currently going through an accuracy check.

“The selection of those who have been awarded the PSC Student Loan Scheme will be made early next week,” Mr Chand said.

The Student Loan Scheme is an Affirmative Action Programme by Government designed to assist the disadvantaged families who cannot otherwise access tertiary education.
