Students should not be charged money for breaking class rules - Education Minister

26/05/2010

Teachers, in their strive for excellence in the classroom, sometimes make decisions or measures, which they hope will turn out right. However at times, it may not be the best or right decision.

For instance, charging students money for speaking in their own vernacular.

Teachers are reminded that it is illegal to charge students money for breaking a school or class rule.

The Ministry believes that there are alternative measures, which can be more beneficial and rewarding to the child, but to charge them money, is against the law.

The Ministry hopes that all teachers will immediately refrain from enforcing such practices in their classes.
