Police say most of the estimated 6000 students who were on the streets of Suva on Saturday night after the Coca Cola Games were mainly from the rural and island schools.
They were obviously on their own without any adults to supervise them. Police said they were overwhelmed at the number of students roaming the streets that night they had to call for extra manpower.
The Minister of Education, Mr Filipe Bole was shocked over the police statement and asked teachers and parents responsible for rural and maritime students’ tour to the Coca Cola to be more prudent in their planning.
“The revelation by police about students unsupervised in town on Saturday night is shocking. Teachers and accompanying adults should have a better idea of how students spend their time after the games,” the minister said.
“Parents of students in Suva and other nearby secondary schools are continually advised to please look after your children. Some of them may be quite influential to the innocent one from the rural and maritime schools.”
