Government continues to give priority to investment in skills development and training of Fiji’s workforce.
Public Service Permanent Secretary, Mr Parmesh Chand says in response to the changing global trends, Fiji’s workforce needs to up-skill and upgrade to develop more multi-faceted skills throughout their careers in order to remain productive.
Mr Chand said that skills development, innovation and productivity are catalysts for economic growth.
PSC, as the central personal authority of Government, works closely with other central agencies, line ministries and donor agencies to ensure that the area of manpower development remains a priority in our efforts to reform and improve efficiencies in the Public Service.
One such agency providing significant technical assistance is the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) in Manila, Philippines.
The partnership between Fiji and CPSC continues to grow with a whole array of new course programmes for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
Last year, Fiji sent eight participants for training under the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) and two this year.
Programmes offered to participants range from Green Education for Sustainable Development; Regional Programme on Emerging Trends on teaching and learning; Human Resource Development collaborative regional programme on Industry/Institution linkage system; Total Quality Management; Professional Development Programme on Science and Mathematics for Teachers.
The Colombo Plan Staff College is a regional intergovernmental organisation in the Asia Pacific Region mandated to enhance vocational and technical training to its member countries.
