Suspected Illicit Substance Detected

The Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority (FIRCA) has seized a baggage containing clothes soaked in what is believed to be illegal substances on Wednesday, January 26.

Two people, one believed to be an Indian national while the other an American, have been apprehended and handed over to Border Police at the Nadi International Airport.  

This interception had been successful through the combined effort of Fiji Police and  FIRCA through the Transnational Crime Unit.

According to the United Nations, annual worldwide illegal drug sales are greater than the gross domestic product of 88 per cent of  countries in the world.

A UN report puts world's illicit drug trade at estimated $321billion.

It is the first time the UN drugs agency made an estimate of the worth of the world's illegal drug market, which it said was necessary to understand the breadth of its influence and its ability to destabilise countries.
