TAGITAGI PUBLIC SCHOOL TO BE CONVERTED INTO A TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Students and youths of Tavua will now have an opportunity to pursue a career in technical areas.



This follows a meeting today by the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Dr Mahendra Reddy met and the management of Tagitagi Public School for the conversion of the school into a Technical College.



Hon. Dr Reddy highlighted to the school management of Tagitagi Public School the reforms undertaken by the Ministry of Education to assist ordinary Fijians secure a better future.



"The Technical College will provide an opportunity for those that cannot afford to travel to city areas to get proper qualifications. The students will also be eligible for TELS so all they need to do is enrol into this Technical College and secure proper qualifications to open up employment opportunities,” Hon. Dr Reddy said.



The Minister also advised the management that the Ministry of Education will arrange the relocation of students in their school to Tagitagi Sangam School, a primary school adjacent to the school in Tavua.



The school management expressed their expression to Government for the conversion of the school into a Technical College and for the initiatives undertaken by the current government to provide educational opportunities for Fijian students.



School manager, Rajendra Singh said they were happy with the proposal by the Minister to convert the school into a Technical College.



"This will surely open doors for the children of Tavua to get better educational services. Most of the students from this area cannot afford to pay fees and fares to get further education, with the Technical College established here and with the provision of TELS to our students, they will surely acquire the necessary skills to secure them employment opportunities,” Mr Singh said.



The management of Tagitagi Public School have also presented their consent letter to the Minister for Education expressing their full support for the conversion of their school into a Technical College.
