TAKE A STAND FOR TEACHERS

On the day of the celebrations for World Teachers Day, Education Minister Ambassador Filipe Bole has issued a call for people to take a stand for teachers.

“Today (Friday October 5th), as we commemorate world teachers’ day, we must ‘Take a stand for teachers’

“Teachers are the best resource we can put into a school and schools are the base for healthy and law – abiding communities,” remarked the Minister for Education, Ambassador Filipe Bole.

World Teachers day is celebrated on 5th October 2012

Mr Bole commended the teachers for the execution of their roles.

“I must congratulate the 9553 teachers in our 913 Primary and Secondary schools for being the positive inspirations to the students. There are also more than 800 Early Childhood Education Teachers and we do thank them for the patience and tolerance they have exhibited while nurturing the Infant students,” said Mr Bole.

Mr Bole has called on teachers to up –skill and upgrade their qualifications so to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

“ There are three local universities in the country where you can pursue further training to up-skill and upgrade your qualifications. You need this to effectively teach your content and for the quality of learning for all your students. You need to keep improving your professional standard,” added the Minister.

The minister has also requested the local communities to render their support to teachers posted to schools within their communities.

“I am also calling on our local communities in the islands, the remote and rural areas to come forward and support our teachers who have been posted away from the comforts of their homes, families, friends and their familiar surroundings to teach in schools within your communities,” concluded the Minister for Education.

Schools within the country will be celebrating World Teachers’ Day in their respective schools.
