The Minister for Education, Filipe Bole has emphasised to senior staff at a meeting this week on the importance of teachers being well –groomed and presentable in their respective workplaces.
“Self – discipline starts with us. We cannot be telling students to dress well, cut their hair short, shave every day, trim their nails and be clean if we and our teachers are not modeling it ourselves. ‘Bula wear’ should be limited to Fridays alone. Inform teachers that there is a standard dress code that all teachers should adhere to when in school”, Minister Bole said.
The Minister shared his concerns with senior staff saying that students emulate their teachers which includes the way they dress and the way they present themselves in public.
“The way we dress shows how much we respect our customers who are our students. Students will certainly reciprocate the respect we give them. The casual wear shows the casual attitude that accompanies it, which means the casual presentation of lessons in the classroom which affects the learning of the students,” the Minister said.
Principals and Head teachers are reminded to always observe the standard dress code of teachers in their respective schools.
