More than Two Hundred members of the Tebara Ex-Servicemen Association turned out in numbers to remember relatives who have given their life in war and in peace keeping duties.
The association’s members are from Tailevu South, Rewa and lower Naitasiri and includes widows of ex-servicemen and relatives of those ex-servicemen that are no longer with us today.
The Chief Guest was Ratu Joji Cakobau, a former soldier himself and son of the late Governor General of Fiji Ratu Sir George Cakobau .
“Today we remember those that have given their lives in the 1st world war firstly in France and then the Solomon War Campaign. The red poppy that we are wearing today signifies how deep we respect their deed and courage,” Ratu Cakobau said.
“Likewise we also remember those that have given their lives for their country in the Malayan Campaign, and during peace keeping duties in Lebanon, Sinai, and other parts of the world,” he said.
“We must also remember the services given to the British Army in the past and today by our sons and daughters and we thank them for their bravery,” Ratu Cakobau said.
The parade by the Tebara Ex-Servicemen was inspected by Captain Ilai Tawakedrau of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).
President of the Tebara Ex-Servicemen’s Association Mr John Whippy said it was encouraging to see so many ex-servicemen convening at the Mokani village ground.
“I must thank each ex-serviceman who were present on the day and of course widows, sons and daughters of those that gave their life for their country the turnout was really good,” Mr Whippy said.
