THINK, SPEAK POSITIVES AND PROVIDE ALTERNATIVES

25/01/2012

Minister for Education, Filipe Bole is urging parents and guardians to think and speak positively and provide alternatives to their children if they did not do too well in the Fiji Seventh Form and Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examinations.

The Minister’s comments follow the release of the Form Seven results a fortnight ago and the results of examinations taken by Form Six students which will be released later this week.

“Parents and guardians are urged to listen attentively to their children and be sensitive to their feelings when discussing their career paths. Some students may have identified their goals but because of their examination results, may feel inadequate”, Minister Bole said.

“If your child’s behaviour changes to being too quiet or withdrawn after receiving his/her results, please sit him or her down and have a ‘heart to heart talk’. Empathize with him or her and be positive in your approach. Lay out the alternatives and guide your child into making wise and informed choices. Seek the assistance of a professional if you need to,” Mr Bole added.

The Career Section and the Technical and Vocational Education Training of the Curriculum Development Unit at the Ministry of Education will be able to provide some information to those needing assistance.

The Minister has urged students who did not do too well in the two external examinations to be positive in their thinking.
