“THIS IS NOT THE END OF THE ROAD”: A-G TURAGA

23/08/2023

“This is not the end of the road, Government has allocated funds for your rehabilitation so when you have served your time, you can pursue to be better.”

This was the message from the Attorney General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga while to inmates of the Taveuni Corrections Facility today (23.08.23) in his first official tour of the North.

AG Turaga urged the 63 inmates to take advantage of the rehabilitation methods offered by the Fiji Corrections Services, including spiritual guidance, training and trade courses.

“Government has allocated funds for your rehabilitation and you should make use of this opportunity to learn,” AG Turaga said.

Meanwhile, AG Turaga has commended the Fiji Corrections Service for the work they have carried out over the years in the rehabilitation of inmates.

“I am very impressed with the Fiji Corrections Service, at the level of discipline, cleanliness and especially here where there is less supervision, as we came out I could see them going to the farm and back” he said.

“We hope that one day once they are truly reformed, it will be like that, there will be no supervision, and when one has reached that stage then that shows they have fully rehabilitated.”

AG Turaga also called on Correction officers to support their leaders in achieving the vision of the institution.

He will also be visiting the Labasa Corrections Facilities tomorrow.
