The Tobacco Control Enforcement Unit of the Ministry of Health & Medical Services would like to inform all tobacco retailers, and suki vendors, that the renewal of their certificates of registration plus licenses has started this month of November and will end on 31st of January, 2015.
Since the Tobacco retailers numbers is quite huge, the Health Ministry is providing a three month registration period to cover all who wish to register.
Retailers caught by enforcement officers after 31st January, 2015 for operating without a valid certificate will be given a fine not exceeding $5,000 upon conviction.
The Tobacco retailers selling electronic cigarettes also known as e-cigarettes, are also reminded that they need to register as required by the laws of the country stipulated under Section 23 (1) and 25 (1) of the Tobacco Control (Amendment) Decree 2014 whereby it is mandatory that they be registered before retailing. Importing of e-cigarette products requires a license and needs to be applied 3 months before importation or distribution as stipulated under Regulation 16 (1) of the Tobacco Control (Amendment) Decree 2014. Retailers need to fill in a form for registration with the following requirements;
1. Tax Identification Number (TIN) letter from FRCA
2. Registration Certificate from the Registrar of Companies Office
3. FTIB approval letter
4. Business License from the Municipal Council or DO’s Office.
5. For a new importer, a certified copy of General bonded Warehouse or Excise Warehouse Bond Certificate, issued by Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority
6. List of all brands of e-cigarettes imported and
7. A signed application form by the applicant affirming the content of the application form to be complete, true and correct.
The fines imposed to those operating illegally is not exceeding $50,000 upon conviction.
Please go to the nearest Health Office in your district and submit your application or else submit it to Ministry of Health & Medical Services, Level 3, Namosi House , Amy street, Toorak.
