TONGAN ENTREPRENEUR FINDS OPPORTUNITY IN FIJI DAY CELEBRATIONS

For Tongan-born entrepreneur Lia Susau, Fiji has become more than home—it’s where her business dreams have taken root.

Now based in Delainavesi, Lia has been in Fiji for 12 years and runs Susau Investment, a growing micro-business selling traditional Tongan products such as kiekie, kafa (magimagi), and ngatu (tapa).

“I started selling my products from home and then took my business online for more reach,” she said.

“Now I’m taking advantage of opportunities at events like Fiji Day, where I can set up a stall, sell more, get more customers, and make more profit.”

Lia sources her raw materials directly from Tonga, supplied by her mother and sister, and then completes the products locally in Fiji.

“I couldn’t be happier that my business is growing, and having a booth here while people are celebrating Fiji Day will surely attract more customers,” she added.

Her products appeal not only to the Tongan community but also to Fijians from Lau, who, she says, are among her most loyal buyers. Since setting up her booth, Lia has already seen strong interest from visitors and civil servants.

She encourages everyone to visit her stall and support small vendors. “The more you buy, the more discount you will get,” Lia said with a smile.

Fiji Day celebrations are expected to draw large crowds, creating a valuable opportunity for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) like Susau Investment to grow their customer base and generate income.
