The Fijian Tourism Development Plan is in the final stages of drafting before it is taken to stakeholders.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Tourism Hon. Faiyaz Siddiq Koya.

“The Plan will encapsulate the vision of the government for the tourism industry which is the biggest contributor to the Fijian economy,” Minister Koya said.

“My Ministry is on the verge of finalizing the draft Fijian Tourism Development Plan that will encapsulate the vision of the Fijian Government for the tourism industry.

“We hope to take the draft Plan to the industry players in the first quarter of this year.”

The Tourism Development Plan will become a key tool in advancing the tourism market both as a brand and also as a niche market for tourists.

The plan is essential for a consolidated approach to development of the tourism sector and government would take a key role in ensuring that Fiji remains a top destination for its visitors.

Minister Koya added that the Plan amongst other key areas identifies the measures that need to be put in place in towns and centers to attract more visitors.

“As stated numerous times 85 per cent of the total number visitors are concentrated in Nadi and therefore, specific attractions need to be developed in other regions to entice visitors.”
