The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, in partnership with Tourism Fiji and Business Assistance Fiji, successfully concluded a three-day Up-skilling and Re-skilling Business Training Workshop for tourism micro and small enterprise operators at the CAAF Board Room in Namaka, Nadi.
The workshop brought together aspiring and existing tourism entrepreneurs to strengthen their business capabilities. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions covering entrepreneurship, marketing, financial literacy, legal compliance, and sustainable tourism practices—skills essential for long-term success in a competitive and evolving industry.
The training formed a core component of the Ministry’s Pilot Tourism Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) Grant Scheme. Recognising the challenges many MSEs face in accessing finance—often due to limited collateral or formal records—the Ministry through the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs and Communication, designed this initiative to combine financial support with essential capacity-building. It ensured grant recipients were well-equipped to manage their funds effectively and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider tourism economy.
This initiative aligns with the National Sustainable Tourism Framework 2024–2034, which envisions a resilient and inclusive tourism industry that benefits all Fijians. With MSMEs making up nearly 80% of the tourism sector, their growth and sustainability remain central to Fiji’s broader economic strategy.
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Salaseini Daunabuna, in her closing remarks, commended the participants for their commitment to learning and thanked all partners, including the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs and Communications, Business Assistance Fiji, Tourism Fiji, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji.
The workshop concluded with a certificate presentation, marking not just the end of the training but the beginning of new journeys—empowering local entrepreneurs to innovate, lead, and thrive in Fiji’s tourism future.
