TVET TO HELP IN THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM

17/10/2022

Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is an area that the Ministry of Education is proposing to focus on to help transform the education sector in the country.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Education, Heritage, and Arts, Premila Kumar while speaking to Waiqele College and Waiqele Primary School teachers today (17/10/22), where she stated the need for skilled workers to meet market demands.

Minister Kumar added that Fiji had made a global commitment to transform its education system, and had identified three key areas that needed to be reformed, which included TVET, E-learning, and teachers’ welfare.

Apart from the need to meet market demands, Minister Kumar said that all children were unique in their interests, talents, and abilities, thus there is a need to introduce a variety of subjects like TVET to utilise these interests, talents, and abilities.

In addition, Minister Kumar stated that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has agreed to delegate a professional in the TVET field that would guide the Ministry in this area.
