Tears turned to smiles in Muana Village, Rewa yesterday (24:04:2025) as two families stepped into a home of their own provided by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management.

Funded under the Ministry’s rural housing assistance(RHA) program, the two houses turned long held dreams to reality for 25-year-old Jeremaia Bose and 60-year-old Timoci Mokoti.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka said it was pleasing to witness people, especially young people benefiting from such programs and preparing for the future.

“For me, it’s an exciting time that we actually see our work bearing fruits and we are very thankful for everyone involved,” Minister Ditoka stated.

“If people live in good houses, they sleep well and they feel secure in their own homes, it makes for better workmen or work-women. It bodes well for the future of the working person, that if they have their own home that they can stay in, that the future of their children is secure so they have a better family atmosphere where they can raise good, young, well-rounded children who will be the future of our nation.

“And I believe that's where everything starts from, the home so that's what we're providing and we're hoping to keep providing to the rest of the members of the rural community who wish to apply for it.”

For the successful completion, both recipient's paid one-third contribution which was
$9,551.95 each summing up to $19,103.90 while two-third was assisted by the government totaling up to the sum of $43,537.88.

Minister Ditoka urged the members of the public to apply and take advantage of the program.

“It's open to all communities, it's not just for iTaukei, as some people might think, it's open to all communities, whoever applies for it.”
