School teachers of Nakasi High, Rewa Secondary, and Pt Shreedhar were reminded to teach students and not the blackboard.
Minister for Education Mr Filipe Bole made the comment when he visited the three schools on Wednesday 24th February 2010.
Many teachers are fond of writing long notes and talk to the blackboard with their backs to students while teaching.
This, Mr Bole said, is an indication of poor preparation on the part of the teachers.
At times, teachers were found to have no scheme of work, no workbooks and no lesson plans.
Teachers need to remember that most students these days know more and if teachers are not well prepared in their lesson preparations, students can lose confidence in them.
A teacher in one of the schools asked Mr Bole about job opportunities for students after leaving schools. In response the Minister said getting jobs for the students should not be the teachers’ worry because job opportunities depend on the economy and Government.
While at Pt Shreedhar College, the Minister met the principal and board of governors who requested for the Minister’s approval for the school to proceed to Form 7. The request was granted.
