Teachers all over the country are warned to refrain from commenting in the media on any issue pertaining to the Ministry of Education and its functions or face disciplinary actions.
This is in response to a number of secondary and primary school teachers who have lately been commenting on issues that contradicts the Ministry’s policies and procedures.
There are forums in which they can direct their grievances to and not to take them to the media.
Teachers and all employees of the Ministry of Education have been sufficiently informed about the Ministry’s media protocol and procedures.
The said Media protocol and Procedure of the Ministry of Education was first published in the Education Gazette of Term II, 2006. The said procedures and protocol are still valid.
A latest reminder about the subject appears on page 37 of the Term III, 2009 Education Gazette, which says only the Minister for Education is the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Education.
The Education Gazette is an official publication, which all teachers are required to read and understand.
The Ministry of Education will immediately instigate disciplinary actions on teachers and Ministry officials who continue to flout this directive.
